Tara background

Oxum Tara – White Moon

Tara Painting

Description

Oxum is the Afro-Brazilian Goddess of the sweet waters, rivers, streams and waterfalls. She represents love, beauty, and fertility.

Tara is the Buddhist Goddess of universal compassion. She is a guide and protector for all beings in search of peace and liberation from suffering.

The lead vocal on the track is sung with Ayla Schafer.

“Between 1990 and 2002 I spent 12 years living between Japan and Brazil – two very contrasting cultures where somehow I felt equally at home. As an Englishman from Yorkshire it still surprises me how easily and naturally I took to living in these very different places – from the Buddhist temples of Kyoto to the rainforests of Brazil. This simple song for Oxum and Tara seems to echo something of the universal message of spiritual healing that runs through my travels and my experiences.”

Mantra

Tara Mantra

Om Tare Tuttare Ture Soha

Translation: I prostrate to the Liberator, Mother of all the Victorious Ones.

The Bodhisattva Tara was born from the tears of Avalokiteshvara as he looked down on the sorrows of the world. Her name comes from the Sanskrit word Tāra and means literally: carrying across, a saviour, protector; a star, shining.

Her right hand is in the mudra of giving, and her left hand the mudra of fearlessness through going for refuge to the three jewels. Her left leg is tucked up in the meditation posture and her right leg is stepping down into the world. The left leg symbolises her meditation, while the right symbolises her compassionate activity in the world.

Tara is considered as the “Mother of all Buddhas”. She has many forms, This mantra is chanted or sing to salute all forms of Tara.

  • Samayatara: Green Tara of compassion and protection
  • Sitatara: White Tara of long life and serenity.
  • Pravira: Tara Swift and Heroic
  • Candrakanti: Tara White as Autumn Moon
  • Kankavarna: Golden Colored Tara
  • Vadipramardani: Black Tara Crushing Adversaries
  • Humsvaranadini: Tara Proclaiming the Sound of HUM
  • Sokavinodana: Tara Dispeller of Misery

Lyrics

& chords

Wash me clean in your waters
And baptize me in your love
Crystalene in your pureness
Gentle healer, Mamãe Oxum

For like a wave in the ocean
I have no life apart from thee
So wash away these old emotions
Purify me and set me free

Om Tare Tuttare Ture Soha
Om Tare Tuttare Ture Soha
Om Tare Tuttare Ture Soha
Om Tare Tuttare Ture Soha

As the white full moon fills the sky
I feel my soul take wings and fly

For my spirit knows no borders
And my heart belongs to thee

Om Tare Tuttare Ture Soha
Om Tare Tuttare Ture Soha

Om Tare Tuttare Ture Soha
Om Tare Tuttare Ture Soha
